What is Euphoria?

Euphoria is the highest state of joy or intense pleasure, felt deeply. It may have occurred naturally in your life after receiving great news, falling in love, or through joyous events in your life like getting married or the birth of a child.
There are variations of euphoria. Sometimes it is felt as a burst of energy, almost like an adrenaline rush. Other times it is felt as deep relaxation, accompanied by feelings of satisfaction or contentment.
It is important to remember that not all kratom produces euphoric effects. To determine the best kratom for euphoria, you must consider strain and vein variety, and you must ensure dosage within the range mostly likely to produce euphoria.
How Does Kratom Cause Euphoria
At the risk of oversimplifying: Naturally-occurring alkaloids in kratom are responsible for its euphoric effects. In particular, mitragynine is thought to be responsible for the rush-of-energy form of euphoria, while 7-hydroxymitragynine is believed to be responsible for the deep contentment form of euphoria.
The mechanism through which kratom causes euphoria is essentially that alkaloids bind to opioid receptors in the brain, which then stimulate the sympathetic nervous system, which then sends signals to release endorphins, and endorphins are ultimately responsible for the euphoric sensation you feel.
Best Kratom for Euphoria

Maeng Da Kratom for Intense Euphoria
Maeng Da produces the strongest euphoric effects of any strain, typically in the form of intense joy and energy.
Maeng Da is highly stimulating, and in fact may be overwhelming for
beginners. But Maeng Da is probably the most commonly cited best kratom for euphoria among experienced users.
Maeng Da is quick-acting and short-lived, and its effects are usually felt only for a couple of hours.
Maeng Da also offers potent pain relief, which may be an added bonus if chronic pain is the root cause of a lack of enjoyment in life.
Borneo Kratom’s Calming and Euphoric Effects
Borneo also produces powerful euphoric feelings, but they are calming rather than stimulating. In fact, Borneo is usually considered a sedating strain (in other words, it may make you fall asleep), but choosing a white strain variety will help minimize any sedating effects.
The overall effect is often described as “complete serenity.”
Bali Kratom for Euphoria and Sedation
Bali produces effects similar to Borneo, with the exception that it is slightly more sedating. Even with white strains, euphoria can tip over into sedation pretty easily with Bali. The best way to combat this and stay within the “euphoria range” is to keep dosage low – approximately 3-4 grams at most.
Malay Kratom for Mild but Good Euphoria
Malay produces a milder form of euphoria, probably best described as an uplift in mood or feelings of positivity. This makes Malay one of the best choices for more frequent use.
Malay is also famously long-lasting, with effects lasting 6-8 hours. And users often report that the overall reduction in stress lasts much longer.
Best Kratom Veins for Euphoria
All else being equal, white and green vein kratoms are the best choices for euphoria. Red should be avoided, as it is generally more closely associated with pain relief and sedation.
White is probably the best choice if you are looking for the rush-of-energy type of euphoria, while green is probably the best choice if you primarily want mood enhancement.
Best Dosage for Euphoria

Ultimately, endorphins are responsible for euphoria, and higher doses tend to cause a greater release of endorphins. But this is a very fine line, because too high of a dose will cause only sedation – not euphoria.
Counterintuitively (and like using kratom for energy), less is actually more. As a general rule, low doses of 1-2 grams are most effective at producing energy. Moderate doses of 3-4 grams are most effective at producing euphoria. And high doses of 5+ grams are most effective at producing pain relief and sedation.
If you hope to achieve the burst-of-energy form of euphoria, a lower dose of approximately 2-3 grams is most likely to be successful. If you want to achieve general mood enhancement, a moderate dose of 3-4 grams is most likely to be effective.
Additional Effects You Might Expect
In addition to euphoria, the strains recommended here are also likely to promote:
- Improved mood and attitude.
- Better focus and concentration, and lessened perception of the effort required for tasks.
- Improved stamina and endurance, especially in harsh conditions or with demanding tasks.

Are there any strains that are both pain-relieving and euphoric?
Yes! Maeng Da (white in particular) is your best bet for pain relief and euphoria. A moderate dose of 3-4 grams will be most likely to produce euphoria, while higher doses (say, 5+ grams) will be better for pain relief. If you want both, you might straddle that 4-5 gram line. Always start low and use the least amount you need.
Can you talk a little bit more about dosage? I’m trying to hit euphoria without getting sleepy at all, but it is a fine line.
It is a fine line! I would suggest you keep the dose at 3-4 grams or less, as anything more will induce sleepiness. And as I mentioned above, start as low as possible and see what works for you. Also, I would try white or green strains rather than red, and strains like Maeng Da or Malay rather than Borneo or Bali.
Thanks for this! Totally agree with your selections. I can get opiate-like euphoria from all of these strains. Green Borneo is my go-to without a doubt.
